Invitation...
An invitation from the Convenors
The Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM),
the Food and Nutritional Sciences Division of the CSIRO, and the Nutrition Society
of Australia (NSA) are proud to announce the 2nd International Conference on the Science of Nutrition in Medicine and Healthcare, to be held at the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne, from 4-6 May, 2012.
The inaugural conference held at the Swiss-Grand at Bondi Beach in May 2011
was a sell-out success with 440 people attending over the three days. Feedback
from speakers, delegates, abstract presenters and sponsors confirmed that the
event was of the highest international standard, and that the time is right for an annual meeting bringing together the expertise of the medical, nutritional and scientific communities in Australia and New Zealand.
Nutritional medicine is evidence-based, drawing on the latest biomedical science and research to develop new treatment approaches to disease and illness and importantly, for primary prevention. At the heart of this approach to healthcare, are the emerging fields of epigenetics and nutrigenomics, through which we can advance our understanding of the building blocks of life, and our ability to influence our predisposition to disease or illness and our children?s genetic inheritance.
The themes of the 2012 conference will be Gastrointestinal Metabolism, Mood & Anxiety Disorders, and Hormonal Regulation & Modulation, once again reflecting important areas in clinical practice and scientific research. Frontiers in nutritional genomics will also be presented in the pre-conference Epigenetics & Nutrigenomics workshop.
Once again, an impressive line-up of recognised leaders in science, research and clinical application will be invited from Australia, New Zealand and overseas to explore the conference themes and their inter-relationship, along with key public health, political and industry figures. There will also be co-ordinated media exposure leading up to the event.
In keeping with the high profile of the conference, Dr Norman Swan, of the ABC Health Report, will return as Master of Ceremonies and to facilitate the plenary panel discussions.
We extend a warm invitation to join us at what we believe will be an informative, intellectually challenging, and clinically important event.

More Details
Themes
Conference themes include:
- Epigenetics & nutrigenomics (pre-conference workshop)
- Gastrointestinal metabolism
- Mood & anxiety disorders
- Hormonal regulation & modulation
- Scientific (abstracts) stream
Each theme will be addressed in the plenary sessions (for all delegates) as well as in three concurrent (breakout) interactive 'workshop' style sessions, allowing delegates to attend the most relevant sessions and topics. For example, you can attend all three of the gastrointestinal metabolism breakout sessions, or mix your themes (gastrointestinal, mood & anxiety, hormonal, scientific) depending on which speakers and topics you would like to hear. There is no need to decide which breakout sessions you want to attend until the conference. The theme for the Pre-Conference Workshop is Epigenetics and Nutrigenomics, however there will also be an over-arching nutrigenomics theme throughout the whole weekend concluding with a keynote address at the end of the Main Conference bringing together the themes and looking at the future of nutritional genomics in those areas.
